5th and 6th global conferences on transparency research

The Standing Executive Committee of the Global Conference on Transparency Research—consisting of: A.J. (Albert) Meijer (Utrecht University), Suzanne Piotrowski (Rutgers University), Alasdair Roberts (University of Missouri), Jean-Patrick Villeneuve (University of Lugano)—is very pleased to announce the 5^th and 6th Global Conferences on Transparency Research at the University of Limerick, Ireland (June 2017) and The Schools of Administration and Law at the FGV in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (June 2018) respectively.

The Global Conference on Transparency Research (GCTR) is the preeminent conference bringing together leading scholars from throughout the world to collectively advance our understanding of the impact and implications of transparency policies that involve governments, either directly or indirectly. The GCTR involves scholars from a wide range of fields including sociology, anthropology, political science, public administration, economics, political economy, journalism, communication sciences, business, history, philosophy, and law who study issues of transparency and openness.

The 1st Global Conference on Transparency Research (1stGCTR) was held at Rutgers University-Newark in May 2011. The second was held in Utrecht, Netherlands (2012); the third at HEC Paris, France (2013); and the fourth at USI Lugano, Switzerland (2015).

 The 5^th Global Conference on Transparency Research will take place from June 19 to June 21 2017 and will be held at the University of Limerick in Ireland.  On this occasion, the conference is being jointly organized by the University of Limerick and the University of Baltimore in the USA, in association with the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and Makarere University in Uganda.

The Schools of Administration and Law at the FGV in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will host the 6^th Global Conference on Transparency Research during late June 2018. The Conference is tentatively entitled Complying with Transparency, Transparency in Compliance and aims to attract participants from around the world and especially Latin America. Given that this will be the first GCTR held in the Global South, several thematic panels will focus on how well new transparency norms have taken hold in corresponding regions.
